Following our 2023 research report ‘Understanding pupil absence in schools in Wales’, the Welsh Government commissioned Parentkind to conduct qualitative research with parents of children with significant levels of absence in Wales to help identify practical actions that Welsh Government could take to help improve attendance in school.

The Welsh Government commissioned us to undertake research amongst parents and carers in Wales with a child with attendance issues to understand more about the reasons for their absences, the support offered, and what help their family would find useful.

This tutoring poll sought parents’ views in England. The outcome determined that only half of parents have heard of the National Tutoring Programme (NTP).

In March 2022, 6843 parents and carers gave us their thoughts on the idea of an extended school day, and possible changes to the school year in Wales. This research was in collaboration with Child Poverty Action Group.

Research in collaboration with PEG shows that parents are, each year, spending £173 per primary school child and £378 per post-primary school child on school uniform, PE kit and footwear.

Parents give their views on mobile phones in schools and classrooms.

Most parents (56%) do not want the school day compulsorily extended to give children an extra half-hour of academic catch-up, a survey of 888 parents in collaboration with Child Poverty Action Group has found, but there is strong support (65%) for more extra-curricular activities out-of-school hours.
