School uniform poll — July 2021

Below are the results of our short poll on school uniforms in England which were shared with Department for Education.

Key findings 

  • 79% of parents agreed that the uniform list they were provided with prior to their child starting their school gave clear and accurate information on what items of uniform would be required and where they could be purchased (including options for generic items) — 14% disagreed
  • Of those whose child’s school had considered changing the uniform policy, 38% of parents had been consulted whilst 45% hadn’t. 
  • 64% of parents agreed that their child’s school has an appropriate number of branded items — 25% disagreed. 
  • 44% of parents said second-hand pre-loved items are easily available — 35% said they aren’t. 
  • 58% of parents said their child is currently comfortable wearing second-hand uniform — 16% said their child isn’t. 

Methodology 

A short online survey was promoted on social media to parents of school age children in England between 29th June and 19th July. 439 parents responded to the survey. Please note not all parents answered every question and percentages below may not add up to 100% due to rounding.
