3 PTA events for book lovers

1. Immersive story time
Suitable for primary schools
There are many ways your PTA can transform story time into a magical experience for the children in your school. From costumes, props and decorations to acting out the stories with actors or puppets, bringing a beloved book to life is a surefire way to create treasured memories for the little book lovers in your school.
Start planning your immersive story time by choosing a well-known, much-loved book. If you were to choose The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson, for example, you could turn your school hall into a beautiful woodland. Or if you decided to read one of the Paddington Bear stories, you could serve up sandwiches and ask the children to bring their own bears to listen to the story.
Keep the excitement of story time going by handing out copies of the book afterwards for the children to take home, or hold a general book sale so families can pick a new bedtime story.
2. The Masked Reader
Suitable for secondary schools
Think the Masked Singer TV show, but for reading! Put the call out for willing pupils and faculty members to wear a mask and perform a dramatic reading of their favourite story, play or poem, either to camera or live on stage in the school hall. The rest of the school then has to vote who they think the Masked Reader is, plus name the book the Masked Reader has chosen. It’s a really fun way to introduce pupils to new books, and you can sell them in a book sale afterwards or make a special display of them in the school’s library!
3. Comic Con
Suitable for all ages
Comic books are incredible storytelling mediums and are just as valid as prose novels when it comes to reading for pleasure. Host your own mini Comic Con by selling a wide range of graphic novels, comics and manga for pupils to buy. And if pupils are talented cosplayers, a competition with a professional photoshoot is a must!
