No Cold Child

Hundreds of thousands of children will go to school each winter without a warm coat. Our campaign with FatFace in 2024 aimed to change this.

No child should know what it feels like to go to school feeling cold. According to exclusive Parentkind research, up to 144,000 children in the UK will go without a warm coat this winter. This figure could rise to as many as 150,000 children by 2025. No child should have to walk to school in the cold because their parents can’t afford to buy them a warm, winter coat.

Going to school without a coat affects children’s health, their ability to learn and can even make them feel excluded – teachers have told us that if a child doesn’t have a coat, they’ll often make excuses to stay inside at lunchtimes rather than head out to the playground with their friends.

This is why we launched our major campaign in 2024 to make sure no child at your school goes without a warm coat this winter. No Cold Child helps combat the growing levels of poverty in the UK.

What was the goal?

Working with FatFace, we had access to 10,000 coats to help children in schools that need them. This was an ambitious project, but the UK faces a winter coat emergency if urgent action isn’t taken.

The coats were available to registered PTAs who are members with Parentkind. You could also pledge £10 to give a child a coat.
