For most PTAs, the biggest event of the year happens in summer or winter, but have you ever considered a springtime celebration? Whether you fancy hosting one big event or lots of smaller ones, we’ve got three ideas that everyone will love.

Bunny bootcamp

Sweatband? Check! Trainers? Check! Bunny ears? Double-check!

It’s tough work being a bunny, so prep the children for springtime with a bunny bootcamp. You could hire a qualified instructor to take the children through a fun workout, ask a teacher to host a hop-a-thon or create an obstacle course to truly challenge the fitness of your bunnies.

Your bootcamp can be as big or as small as you want it to be. It could be held in an outdoor or indoor space, be just for the littluns or include older children and families, and you could even add a competitive element by awarding prizes to the fastest bunny, best costume or highest hop.

A solid risk assessment and trained first aiders are especially important for bunny bootcamps, and make sure the activities are suitable for those with special educational needs and disabilities so everybunny can take part.

Flap your wings

Many cultures around the world celebrate the arrival of spring with dancing. The traditional folk dance performed for the Holi festival is called Gair, and in England there is Morris and maypole dancing. Honour the tradition with instructor-led lessons, a disco or a freestyle dance-off – whatever gets your community up and grooving.

Feeling sheepish

If you want to offer a relaxing, simple craft for the children who need a break from the hubbub to enjoy, there’s nothing more calming than cotton wool sheep. Get cartoon printouts of sheep or ask the children to draw their own, then provide the glue and decorations – cotton wool, googly eyes, glitter, colouring pens, paint – don’t be afraid to make them jazzier than normal sheep!
