State of School Toilets Report 2025

Parentkind commissioned a poll of 2,000 parents with children at school, run by Censuswide. We asked questions on parents’ worries about school toilets, and what they heard from their children.

The results point to major worries relating to the humiliation that children face as a result of the state of school toilets. One in eight primary school parents said their child’s school toilets were unclean, with this jumping to one in four parents with a child at secondary school. This means around 4,400 schools are struggling with issues of cleanliness.

The poll also raises concerns that filthy school loos are having an impact on learning with about 4 in 10 (42%) parents saying they are worried that the state of some school toilets is affecting children’s ability to concentrate” in class while 1 in 10 children (11%) have asked to miss school because of worries about using school toilets.
