Are your Christmas fairs becoming a bit samey? Here are five ways to jazz things up during the most wonderful fundraising time of the year.

Baking from around the world

There’s nothing like the smell of freshly baked bread, cakes and other treats on a chilly winter day. If you usually host a winter bake sale at your Christmas fair, shake things up by challenging your community to go beyond the usual and recreate a tasty Christmas tradition from another country. From croissants, Portuguese custard tarts and baklava, to coconut-crusted lamingtons, cinnamon buns or the classic French Yule log, the possibilities are endless. Your bake sale won’t just be raising funds – you’ll be introducing somebody to their new favourite sweet treat.

Cosy craft sessions

Get children and families out of the cold and into the ultimate crafting workshop. You can keep things simple with classic Christmas crafts: paper chain garlands, personalised tree ornaments or crackers made out of toilet rolls. For older children and more ambitious crafters, get them making DIY snow globes and winter lanterns. Hand-crafted Christmas cards are also a popular choice.

Winter quiz

Fun fact: Antarctica is the largest desert in the world. And the average snowflake falls at just 1.5 miles per hour. See how much your community really knows about wintertime with a quirky quiz, covering topics like festive traditions, Arctic wildlife, snowy weather, winter sports, festive films and much more. Quizzers can play in teams and compete for prizes.
