Summer term is upon us and now is the time to start thinking about how you will engage new parents joining your school in September.

Given the current restrictions it may be difficult for you to meet new parents physically so it is key that you communicate with them prior to their children starting school.

Many schools usually hold meetings for new parents, if these are still going ahead then ask the Head Teacher if can say a few words about your Association and produce some leaflets and flyers to be handed out to those attending. If the school plan to do this virtually then provide a digital pack of information for parents, giving them an insight into PTA life and how they can support your association.

We have resources available for you to adapt to suit your associations’ needs and a section in our Advice Hub on Parental Engagement.

Use the Welcome Booklet template , or if you like presentations we have a great Powerpoint Welcome meeting template you can use. Put some posters up around the school noticeboards telling parents about your association and what it achieves. You can also share any of our Parentkind communications too.

Let your parents know why having a PTA really matters and encourage them to provide you with contact details for future help.

It is also important to engage with your existing parents to bring new volunteers on board, we have a range of posters available, including meeting the committee and recruiting volunteers.

Once restrictions ease and events begin to return think about holding a coffee morning for parents to meet each other, and where you can spread the word about your Association. You could even consider a picnic or BBQ for a larger family event.

Finally, make sure you are effectively using your social media platforms to promote your association, we recently held a webinar with top tips , you can view this here.
