Coronavirus (Covid-19) — Updated Information for PTAs and Friends Associations

17 March 2020
Following Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s press conference yesterday, although schools remain open for now, the ban on events for over 500 people and social distancing measures, mean that PTAs and Friends Associations will now be cancelling many upcoming events.

We will continue to support you throughout this difficult time and the Member Support Team are still on-hand for guidance, but please do bear with us as we adjust our working environment. If you’re unable to reach the team by phone, please email us at [email protected], or message us via Facebook @PTAExpertbyParentkind.

It’s heart-warming and inspiring to see the positive way PTAs and Friends Associations are adapting to support their schools and wider communities in so many ways: donating food you’re unable to use to local food banks, offering your support to those who are self-isolating, helping schools make sure important information reaches all parents, and much more. You are amazing!

Understandably, family comes first right now, so here’s some information to help you press pause’ on traditional PTA activities for a while:

  1. Continue to seek guidance from the Senior Leadership Team at your school and let parents know you’re working together. The school will be following the latest guidance from the Department for Education and Public Health England, the Public Health Agency in Northern Ireland, or Public Health Wales.
  2. Cancel, postpone, or move events online, following guidance from the school.
  3. Cancellation insurance is not included in the policy provided to members by Zurich Insurance Company Ltd. Where costs have already been committed, we recommend you speak directly to your suppliers and ask whether there are any options available to reduce the impact on your PTA. If any events are still going ahead, please make sure you include how you are addressing the risk of the spread of coronavirus in your risk assessment, following all the government issued guidelines. For further information please go to Zurich’s website, or contact the Membership Support team on

  4. For those of you that feel you want to and are able to carry on in some way, we’ll be posting ideas for non-event activities and information to help support families.

Please do keep asking questions via our Facebook page and let us know what you’re doing so we can share with other members.
