Ella Sivan is a Policy Officer for Welsh Government’s Health and Well-being in Schools team. The team aims to support the mental health and emotional well-being of learners across Wales.
In 2018 the Children, Young People and Education (CYPE) Committee published its Mind Over Matter Report on the emotional and mental health needs of children and young people.

Welsh Government are pleased to announce a significant milestone in their response to the Mind Over Matter report, with a consultation on guidance for developing and embedding a whole school approaches.

Now more than ever, as we begin to ease out of the restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the mental health and emotional well-being of our children and young people has to be our number one priority. This guidance builds on the range of good practice already occurring locally, regionally and nationally across Wales, supporting schools to in reviewing their own well-being landscape and in developing plans to addresses their weaknesses and build on their strengths.

In creating the guidance, Welsh Government have engaged with a range of partners across education, health and the third sectors. Now it is the turn of the wider community to comment. They would be particularly grateful to hear the views of parents and learners across Wales. If you would like to look over the consultation with your child, a young person’s version of the consultation is also available.
