Parents are vital in helping every child thrive and reach their potential at school.
Being a parent isn't always easy. Teachers and schools are under pressure and sometimes lack the resources to fully engage families and the wider community, yet we know that when parents are involved in their children’s education, it has the greatest impact not on just results, but in their children’s self-esteem, confidence and enthusiasm for learning. This is why Parentkind exists- to bring homes and schools together.
Parentkind is here to support more parents to engage in more schools in more ways to benefit as many children as possible. As well as being the UK’s leading membership body for Parent Teacher Associations, we also support and champion the role of parents in their child’s education through our guidance, training and research and by influencing educators, senior education policy makers and legislators.
Our recent brand change is part of a wider transformation that requires new Trustees who can embrace change, mirror our ambitions, drive
innovation, provide strategic insight and possess the desire to impact the education sector. We are looking for people who can be a force for positive change, to add real value to our Board, organisation and the sector as a whole, as we believe the voice of parents is too often excluded in the education debate.
To help us realise our ambitions, you will ideally be skilled and experienced in public relations, public affairs and policy to support us in developing a strategy to gain more education stakeholder and government engagement or education sector knowledge and experience gained at leadership level. This will help us ensure we are developing a strong strategy to change policies for the better and can be even more effective in supporting educators and parents who want to be more active in their child’s education. Although, we are open to suitable people from other backgrounds who are interested and committed to our work.
The Board meets five times a year in Central London plus a yearly strategy away day in Tonbridge, Kent. Sub-Committee meetings including the Audit and Finance Committee and the Nominations, Governance and Employment Committee meet at least twice annually. Trustees are expected to join at least one committee. The term of office for Trustees is two years with the option to serve three terms. The time commitment for a Trustee is 10-12 days per year. The roles are unremunerated but reasonable expenses will be paid.
By joining Parentkind’s board you will help us by providing strategic vision, strategy development, innovation, scrutiny and challenge. This is an opportunity to join an exciting organisation with ambitious growth plans. Candidates will have a passion to influence and drive our strategy to support, engage and champion parents in education.
If you are excited by the opportunity to help amplify the voice of parents, we would love to hear from you.
