We have been talking to the Charity Commission for England and Wales and CCNI who have confirmed a few things about meetings in light of the most recent Coronavirus updates:
- AGMs can now be held beyond the usual 15 month limit as long as your committee have agreed they cannot hold the AGM due to Covid related restrictions and this is clearly documented in your meeting minutes.
- Charities and voluntary organisations are exempt from the rules around gatherings as their meetings are deemed to be business, rather than social. This means that if you do have a venue that is Covid secure, e.g. the number of people attending the meeting can stay either 2m away from each other or 1m with precautions, such as a mask, then you could have the meeting. You'll need to do a risk assessment for the venue, following the guidelines in our information sheet on Risk Assessments.
We also recommend speaking to your local council in case you are subject to local lockdown restrictions.
