Media reports of the growing number of Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases are likely to cause parents some concern.
While large exhibitions and sporting events in some affected countries are being cancelled, other events in the UK are not. The current government advice is that schools should remain open. The risk to individuals in the UK has been raised to moderate, a statement from the 4 UK Chief Medical Officers states “This does not mean we think the risk to individuals in the UK has changed at this stage, but that government should plan for all eventualities.”
We understand that health and safety at events is a priority for PTAs, at this time we recommend Parentkind members take the following measures:
- Seek guidance from the senior leadership team at your school and let parents know you’re working together. The school will be following the latest guidance from the Department for Education and Public Health England, the Public Health Agency in Northern Ireland, or Public Health Wales.
- Add coronavirus to your risk assessment, and complete a new assessment for each event.

- If you have questions or concerns about events organised by your PTA, please check the Zurich Insurance plc. website or call Parentkind Member Support on 0300 123 5460.
- Use your communications (noticeboards, newsletters, social media group, website etc.) to share public health hygiene information with your school community.
