Reaching the end of a year is always a good time for reflection, even after an unusual one like 2020!
This year has raised challenges for all of us, not least when the pandemic forced the cancellation of all of the usual PTA fundraising activities and events we enjoy so much. However, we have been delighted to see online fundraising take off in a major way, with our PTA members getting involved in our two new fundraising initiatives we launched this year - the Big PTA Quiz and the Big PTA Raffle.
2020 has also brought more sharply into focus the parental role in education - what our CEO calls "the biggest pilot in parent participation in education". Championing every parent's right to get involved with and have a say in their child's education is and has always been a central part of what we do as a charity. We checked in with parents during the lockdowns and beyond through a series of polls on key areas of anxiety such as the impact of coronavirus on learning, exams and SEN/SEND. This enabled us to present UK governments and education stakeholders with tangible evidence of parents' concerns for their child's schooling and future, as well as details on how they want to be involved in supporting learning, and what they want when it comes to standards for remote learning.
We look forward to continuing to support our PTA members, their volunteers as well as parents as a whole in their child's education in 2021. Before then, here's a special 'thank you' video from John Jolly, Parentkind's CEO, who reflects on 2020 and looks forward to a bright New Year.
