Your PTA or parent association is part of a strong network of like-minded groups working towards one goal, giving children the best educational experience possible. We would like to take this time of year as an opportunity to thank each of you for your hard work and support to schools.
Here are our highlights of 2017 to look back on the incredible contribution PTAs make (and continue to!) Be sure to share your own highlights of the year with parents, staff and your local community too.
The biggest UK community of PTAs
The size of our Facebook community is continually growing; our pages provide a friendly, dynamic, and supportive environment for PTA volunteers and parents.
The main Parentkind page is where you’ll find over 36,000 volunteers that help each other find solutions to PTA challenges and share stories and ideas. Plus the Parents page is now a growing network sharing all things education, and giving parents a space to give their views and ideas – take a look and hit the like button to get involved.
We know many of our members are working hard and receive local awards and commendations. In November, Knockevin Special School were recognised with an award from the Institute of Fundraising Northern Ireland for ‘Fundraising Team of the Year’ – fantastic work, congratulations! Their PSA coordinated a dedicated fundraising year called ‘The Sparkle Project’ which exceeded all expectations, and with the involvement of the whole community enabled the school to fund substantial repairs, read more.

PTAs overcoming challenges
PTAs regularly overcome a variety of challenges like finding new volunteers, starting up a PTA again from scratch, taking positive action on the issue of school funding or even engaging parents in a harder to reach community. One great example is from teacher Tyson Oliver, who’s helping to rebuild the PFA at St Peter and St Paul Academy.
Despite ongoing challenges with tight school budgets for example, our members continue to work hard and support schools by engaging parents, bringing awareness to funding (to call for support), and working to establish parent voice. Many PTAs have even managed to fund huge projects – see how Claybrooke Primary School raised an incredible £70k for their swimming pool project.
Amazing PTA volunteers
PTAs volunteer 3 million hours every year, that's 200 hours each, and we’re blown away by this contribution (findings from the last member survey). Each and every volunteer gives up time, skills and energy to help a great cause.
Read our blogs and success stories to get a taste of what our members get up to, or join in with the daily discussions on Facebook.
Great new member resources
It’s been great to hear such positive feedback on the resources we’ve developed for members so far, and even better seeing them up in the community. We’ll continue to work on more resources to support you in the coming months. If you come up with any ideas of what you’d like to see, please do let us know by emailing email@example.com.
Here’s a recap of the new posters to support your events: AGM, summer fair, Christmas/festive, film night, fireworks, quiz night, winter disco, and upcoming events. We also produced a flyer to ask parents to join the PTA and a letter about school funding to parents.
Belfast PTA conference
Back in November, Parentkind NI and Titanic Belfast teamed up to host a special event for parents and PTAs. ‘Maximising the Impact of Your PTA’ hosted over 100 delegates who heard from experts in Education, Community, Governance and Parental Engagement.
One of the many comments received about the event was, “Amazing, informative in a fantastic location, I look forward to attending many more.” A big thanks to everyone who attended, read more about the event.
We're looking at how we can hold more events like this in the future, watch this space.
We wish you a wonderful festive season ahead and every success in 2018.
