The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has identified parental engagement as essential in the creation of more equitable schools: when parents and teachers work together to support children it helps close the achievement gap. It is the number one lever for raising pupil attainment. Yet many academies struggle to build an effective home-school partnership.
Our bespoke training is designed to help you work with parents to get the best outcomes for your students. Parental engagement is the number one most powerful school improvement lever and so this work is crucial in taking your school to the next level. Here are some examples of what we can offer your school, governing body or multi-academy trust:
CPD Training Day Workshop
Make the most of INSET or CPD days by offering your staff a unique workshop in your own school surroundings. This will help to build a whole school approach. The session can be structured to focus on the specific challenges your school is facing to engage parents and how you can overcome them.
Governor Training Workshops
Local Authorities can provide support to governing bodies by inviting us to deliver a workshop to address the critical role of governors in building a genuine home-school partnership.
“All governors that attended fully participated in and enjoyed the session immensely. Importantly, they all felt this was something they could use in the near future with their governing bodies.” - Sandra Whalley, Organisational Manager for Professional Development at Bury Council.
Multi-Academy Trusts (MAT) Training Workshop
Aimed at both start-up and existing MATs, this invaluable workshop supports MATs in developing a consistent and strategic approach to parental engagement across their academies.
We can help your MAT develop an effective strategy for engaging parents, ensuring that their views are taken account of in the development of policy. We can train your staff and supply a range of materials to help you develop this work.
We offer a bespoke training and development package designed specifically for your needs which can include:
- An exploratory phonecall with the head or a senior leader to do a short needs analysis
- A 90 minute session with your senior leadership team and governors if requested to develop a strategy to engage parents
- A CPD training event for all staff to build their skills and confidence to work with parents
- Follow-up after three months and one year to identify next steps.
Teaching school alliances/Head teacher associations
Similar to our offer for MATs, we can provide sessions for teaching school alliances and head teacher associations to support the work you are doing, and support maximum knowledge sharing on parental engagement across your local area.
One-to-one support and course extension guidance
We can offer advice on a one-to-one basis or follow-on support and guidance for a period following attendance at one of our courses. This can be provided via email, phone/skype, in person or by a combination, and will provide you with guidance and practical suggestions on how to move your school forward on its journey to engaging parents more effectively.
Why not team up with other local schools in your area to run a bespoke training session?
How many people are bespoke sessions for?
There is no maximum or minimum number. We can run a whole school training session for your whole staff body, or we can organise a day in which selected staff join a number of smaller working groups.
Alternatively we can work with one member of staff or a small group on devising a parental engagement strategy for the school.
How long are bespoke sessions?
This will depend on who the session if for. The minimum is 90 minutes. This would consist of a talk at one of your CPD days for example, or a short presentation to a group. Alternatively, we can offer a whole day session.
We can also offer support over time depending on your needs. Are you interested in developing a whole school approach, for example, or setting up a parent council? Are you interested in developing parents as volunteers, or in a communications plan to engage all your various parent groups in your school?
To work out what you need, we would arrange an initial scoping conversation with your head or senior leader and from there suggest the best option for you within your budget.
How much does bespoke training cost?
Bespoke training starts from as little as £600 for a two hour school session and varies for half or full day workshops. Please contact us to discuss your specific requirements.
For further information and an initial discussion contact Angie Elrick who will be able to discuss what is right for your school.
