Let's get quizzical with the Friends of Blockley School!

Key summary

The Big PTA Quiz 2020 has been a national fundraising success and the Friends of Blockley School, in Gloucestershire, decided they’d like to take part to help bring the school community together, virtually. Here, Clare Turner, Chair of the Friends, tells us more about what they got up to and what the money they raised will be helping to fund…

Let's get quizzical!

“We’re a small school, with only 150 pupils”, Clare explains, “but we’re really lucky to have a great amount of support from the community. We’ve been looking for ways to keep that interest going through this tough and strange year, so when the Big PTA Quiz 2020 came along, we thought we’d have a go!”

As well as keeping the community spirit going, the Friends have been involved with fundraising for a new outdoor learning area. “Part of the area already available for Forest School was unsafe and unused; we wanted to transform it into a sheltered, multipurpose, outdoor learning zone”, Clare describes. “We’re very grateful to the Parish Council for funding half of the £7000 project, but we’re always on the lookout for new fundraising ideas”.

“This felt a really manageable activity”, Clare goes on. “We played to the strengths of our committee with advertising and running the quiz, but were pleased to have the ready-made resources from Parentkind to give us a helping hand. On the night, we had 16 teams take part and once the event got going, there was some friendly banter in the Zoom chat function, which warmed up the atmosphere nicely”.

Clare’s pleased to be able to report that the Big PTA Quiz 2020 raised £130 for the Friends of Blockley School and their outdoor learning project and they are excited about other projects and events they have up their sleeves!
