Baston CE Primary is a small, one form entry village school, which had grown to the point of bursting at the seams. The building was originally designed for almost half the number of children on the register, so facilities like the library are far too small. That’s when the school came up with the ideal solution: a moveable space in the form of a library bus! Lucy Hartley, PTA committee member, tells us how they went about it…
Mrs Suchitra Varma, a parent with a child at Botanic Primary School in Northern Ireland, explains how becoming involved in the PTA helped to break down cultural barriers - and eventually led to her taking a role at the school.
The PTA recognised that some families required extra support, and opted to spend some of their funds hiring a Family Support Worker.
New school ensured that parental engagement was built in to their ethos from the start.
The Deputy Head Teacher launched a programme specifically designed to improve parental engagement. The programme was run with the support of the PTA and succeeded in involving more parents with the school resulting in significant improvements in academic results and school ethos.
